The dream of having your own "Pipe
Organ" seems to be utopia for most people !
And it certainly is- if we talk about
an organ with thousands of pipes
the cost is way too much for the
average Joe Organ Player
( Large
quantity of pipes from pipe organ
)
( Largest retailer of used classical organ parts in USA & Canada )

MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is an industry-standard protocol that enables electronic musical instruments such as keyboard controllers, electronic pianos, and organs to communicate with computers and with each other. MIDI doesn't transmit an audio signal (sound); rather, it transmits event messages such as the pitch and intensity of musical notes to play, and control signals for things like volume, opening and closing swell shades or crescendos on an organ, etc. This information is sent to a computer, where virtual organ software such as Hauptwerk plays the sound recorded from the sampled organ. The result is that the musician is, in effect, playing the original sampled organ by "remote control," hence the term "virtual organ The computer is connected via a Midi cable with the digital organ or keyboard. All pipes of all stops are separate recorded (inclusive reverb) and stored on the computer as sound fragments (samples). There are many samples on Youtube if you look for "Virtual Organ" When you press a key on the digital organ or keyboard then Hauptwerk or JOrgan received it via midi and plays the right sound fragment (sample). When you release the key, the reverb is played. When there are more stops selected all affected samples are mixed. The sound comes from the computer and not from the digital organ. Your keyboards- pedal board and stops / presets get all connected to very small what we call " midi- modules" These midi modules get connected to your computer via a midi cable and you are ready to play organ again
